Seedy Saturday

Seedy Saturdays are individual events that happen across Canada and are hosted by non-profit organizations, community groups, and individuals. These events largely focus on “encouraging the use of open-pollinated and heritage seeds, enabling a local seed exchange, and educating the public about seed saving and environmentally responsible gardening practices”; however, each event is different from the next (Seeds of Diversity)!

Because the purpose of this national event aligns with our organization’s work and values, CHEP Good Food has been hosting Seedy Saturdays in Saskatoon since 1998! This family friendly, community event is beloved by avid gardeners, small seed companies, local businesses, and more. It is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses and organizations to raise awareness, share knowledge, and for connecting with the community. Typically, a Seedy Saturday hosted by CHEP includes the following:

  • Community Seed Exchange
  • Local, sustainability focused vendors
  • Educational Workshops
  • Children’s Activities Room
  • Live Musical Entertainment

To get gardeners excited and prepared for the gardening season, we host this event in March every year! For updates about upcoming Seedy Saturday events, you can follow us on Facebook or Instagram, or come back and check out our website in January every year.
